How a Pawn Shop Works

  • Pawned Items as Collateral: The most traditional way a pawn shop works is as follows—if you are in need of cash and you have a valuable item you can part with, you can take that item to a pawn shop. The shop’s team will then assess your item’s value and, based on their assessment, offer you a price. You can then leave your item at the shop as collateral for a cash loan. If you can pay back the loan within the terms set by the shop, then you can reclaim your item. Otherwise, the shop will take ownership of it and sell it.
  • Outright Sales: Alternatively, you can choose to sell your item to the shop outright. In this scenario, you walk away with ready money, but you won’t have the option to reclaim your item.
  • Pawn Shop Selection: Keep in mind that not every shop will accept every item. For example, our team only pawns jewelry, coins, and firearms, while other shops might accept things like collectibles or antiques as well.
