We’ve got answers when it comes to buying or selling a wide range of items.
When it comes to buying and selling jewelry, coins, knives, or guns, our team at Carolina Silver & Gold has you covered. However, we know that you are likely to have questions when it comes to our process, so we have put together a list of the common ones we often receive and answers below. You are welcome to reach out to us directly if you’re unable to find the answers to your questions below.
What items do you typically buy?
In general, getting cash for gold at a pawn shop is one of the easiest ways to get money fast. Turning to our pawn shop in particular is beneficial because we offer fair, accurate prices. In fact, our customers often say that we pay more than other pawnbrokers. In addition, we offer excellent customer service, so we can assure you that we will assist you as best as we can when you sell your gold to us.
What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve clients in
Greensboro, North Carolina and the surrounding area, but we welcome sellers from other areas of the state as well.
Should I make an appointment if I want to sell items?
Walk-ins are welcome for smaller collections during our regular business hours. However, if you have a very large collection or a full estate, we highly recommend
calling ahead to schedule a private appointment to ensure we’re able to give you our undivided attention.
Do you provide appraisals for legal or insurance purposes?
We do. However, we’re not able to provide you with the information you need over the phone, so it will be necessary to bring your items in to have them appraised.
What experience do you have in the industry?
We have more than 70 years of industry experience, and our store has been open since 2008, making us the go-to choice when you have items to
sell.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, we are fully licensed and insured to buy precious metals, which ensures a secure and trustworthy transaction for all our clients. We operate with full transparency and adherence to all state and federal regulations.
How is the final price determined?
The final price is based on three main factors: the current global “spot price” of the metal, the purity and weight of your item, and its collectible value, if applicable. When making our determination, we use certified scales and transparent testing methods to ensure we give you a fair price.
What forms of payment do you offer?
For your convenience, we typically offer immediate payment in cash or by check once you approve the offer. If the transaction is above a certain amount, we’re able to make other arrangements, such as bank wire transfers.
Why should I choose your company over others in the area?
We are a trusted, established local buyer with decades of experience and a strong commitment to transparent pricing. We strive to offer the highest competitive payouts in the area, and we always ensure a safe, comfortable, and no-pressure environment.
Do I need to bring identification with me when selling?
Yes. For legal and security purposes, state and federal laws require us to make a copy of your valid government-issued photo identification.
Can I sell old or broken jewelry?
Yes. We buy all forms of
gold and
silver jewelry, regardless of condition. If a piece is damaged or broken, it is typically valued based on its melt value, which is the weight of the pure metal content.
How do you test the purity of my gold jewelry?
We use a combination of nondestructive testing methods, including acid testing to determine the karat and electronic testers to verify the metal’s fineness. Additionally, we complete the testing in front of you for the utmost transparency.
Should I clean my old coins or jewelry before I bring them in?
No—and that answer might surprise you. Cleaning rare coins or jewelry can actually impact the collectible value. For precious metal items, cleaning does not affect the melt value, making it unnecessary in that situation as well.
What is the "spot price," and how often does it change?
The “spot price” is the real-time market price for immediate delivery of one troy ounce of a precious metal. It changes constantly throughout the day while the commodities markets are open, which is why we base our offers on the live, real-time price when you visit. This is also why the price might vary from what you may have looked up before coming to see us.
Do you buy coins that are not pure gold or silver?
Yes. We buy certain US coinage dated 1964 and earlier, as these
coins typically contain 90% silver. We also buy older copper, nickel, and certain foreign coins that have collectible value or significant base metal content.
